Considered Scotland's sunniest city, with a flourishing design culture and creative scene, travellers shouldn't overlook Dundee. The city is historically known for the 'Three J's': jute, as Dundee's jute mills were once part of a booming industry; jam, as it's the original home of marmalade; and journalism, as DC Thomson publishers are located in Dundee.

Recently listed in the Wall Street Journal's 'Top Ten cities to visit in 2018', the rejuvenated city of Dundee has a lot to offer. A city with a fascinating heritage and an appreciation of the arts, travellers will have the opportunity to explore the city's Cultural Quarter; with its boutiques, jewellers, galleries, and speciality gift shops. At the Cultural Quarter's core is the Centre for Contemporary Arts and Culture, which houses local art and hosts innovative exhibitions. The McManus: Dundee's Gallery and Museum, located in a Gothic style building, is worth a visit, and the V&A Museum of Design is geared to be an unmissable attraction once publicly unveiled in 2018.

A noteworthy excursion is a visit to the waterfront and the restored RRS Discovery, to learn through short films and interactives how its officers and crew survived two winters trapped in Antarctic ice. For those with plans to make the most of Scotland's best weather, Dundee is the ideal location for cycling, golfing, and hill walking. River based activities are also an exciting alternative; whether water skiing, dolphin spotting, wind surfing, kayaking, or sailing, there is a multitude of ways to enjoy the wondrous River Tay.

A mere four miles (6 km) from the city lies Broughty Ferry, a prime location for a picnic or stroll along the pristine stretch of sand. Broughty Ferry also features as one of Dundee's main food districts, along with the City Centre and Perth Road in the West End. With a swiftly developing food culture, Dundee has a range of contemporary dining options. Tasteful restaurants, stylish cafes, and forward thinking craft beer and cocktail bars are scattered throughout the city. Standard pub grub, an assortment of international spots, and the usual fast food joints are also available. A city in the midst of transformation, Dundee provides an alternative Scottish experience that can be appreciated by all.
