Entry requirements for Americans: Passports must be valid for a minimum of six months beyond the period of intended stay. US Nationals are exempt from visa requirements for six months.

Entry requirements for UK nationals: Valid passports are required. Passengers with a British passport with nationality of "British Overseas Territories Citizen" , "British Citizen", "British Overseas Territories Citizen" ( issued by Anguilla, Bermuda, Cayman Isl., Falkland Isl. (Malvinas), Gibraltar, Montserrat, Pitcairn Isl., Turks and Caicos Isl. or Virgin Isl. (British)), "British National (Overseas)", "British Overseas Citizen", "British Protected Person" or "British Subject" are exempt from acquiring a visa for a six month of stay.

Entry requirements for New Zealanders: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the intended period of stay. Nationals of New Zealand are visa exempt for a maximum stay of 6 months.

Entry requirements for Irish nationals: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the intended period of stay. Nationals of Ireland (Rep.) are visa exempt for a maximum stay of 6 months.

Passport/Visa Note: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the period of intended stay. Visitors must have good medical insurance covering at least GBP 500,000, and including aeromedical evacuation.

Travel Health: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from passengers arriving from an infected country. Vaccinations are also recommended for hepatitis A, hepatitis B and typhoid. The island has a good standard of medical care, with a small but well-equipped general hospital in Jamestown, but costs can be high and travellers should be covered for medical evacuation for serious conditions. To call an ambulance in St Helena travellers should dial 911.

Local Customs: Most roads are single lane and often very steep, and driving etiquette requires traffic coming down to make way for traffic coming up. Driving speed restrictions and drinking and driving laws are strictly enforced. There are severe penalties for the possession or importation of illegal drugs. Drinking alcohol in the streets in Jamestown is not allowed - visitors should only drink alcohol in licensed establishments.

Duty Free: Passengers over 18 years may bring one litre of spirits and two litres of wine or 12 cans of beer; 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of other tobacco products; and 250ml of perfume onto the island without paying duty.
